Caregiver

caregivercarer or support worker is a paid or unpaid member of a person’s social network who helps them with activities of daily living. Since they have no specific professional training, they are often described as informal caregivers. Caregivers most commonly assist with impairments related to old age, disability, a disease, or a mental disorder.

Caregivers have two options to come to Canada. They may enter as a permanent resident or to work temporarily.

Permanent Resident Pathways for Caregivers include:

  • Home Child Care Provider Pilot (since June 18, 2019)
  • Home Support Worker Pilot (since June 18, 2019)

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is only available for employers in the province of Quebec.
